PRESS CALL: Equal Ground & Leading FL Advocates Urge Lawmakers to Defend Democracy and Protect Floridians from Discriminatory Legislation
Ahead of hundreds of Floridians heading to Tallahassee, advocate organizations will lay out priorities for lawmakers to deliver for minority voters and communities
VIRTUAL – On Tuesday, March 25th, Equal Ground – the preeminent Black-led, non-partisan, non-profit working to build Black political power in Florida – will bring together fellow community partners from across the state for a virtual press conference to outline their message to lawmakers in advance of their Day of Action at the Florida Capitol, which will bring together hundreds of Florida voters in Tallahassee.Â
During the virtual press conference, Florida advocates will call out state leaders, who for the past year have prioritized their political agendas ahead of the well-being of Floridians, doubling down on policies that increase voter suppression, censorship in education, and strip away personal freedoms.Â
Tuesday’s press conference will feature remarks from top Florida advocates and community leaders, including Genesis Robinson, Executive Director of Equal Ground, Nicole Dixon, Founder of Real Women Radio Foundation, Carolina Wassmer, Florida State Program Director of Poder Latin X, Salandra Benton, Executive Director of Florida Coalition on Black Civic Participation, Jerry McIntish, Community Leader of NW Panhandle Coalition For Civic Engagement and Movement For Change, Cynthia Slater, Civic Engagement Chair of Florida State Conference of the NAACP, and Trina Wilborn, founder of Keeping A Dream Alive.
This virtual press conference comes just ahead of Equal Ground’s Day at the Capitol, taking place on Wednesday, March 26th, where over 200 advocates, faith leaders, and community partners from across the state will meet with lawmakers and attend committee hearings about key legislation, including Florida’s Voting Rights Act. During these meetings, Day of Action attendees will demand their state legislators take action to push back against unjust attempts to silence minority communities and all Floridians.Â
