HAPPY NEW YEAR

2025 is here, and with it comes a fresh start, new opportunities, and a chance to keep building the world we want to see. The Equal Ground team has returned from our winter break, recharged and ready to move ahead with renewed purpose and determinationAs we reflect on the past year, we are reminded of the incredible work we’ve done together—the challenges we faced, the victories we celebrated, and the communities we strengthened along the way.Equal Ground is about more than just advocating for voting rights; it’s about making real, lasting change for the people and communities we love. In 2024, we pushed boundaries—whether it was fighting for equal voting rights, educating voters across Florida, or standing up for freedom of speech and justice when it mattered most. We proved that when we come together with purpose, we can make a difference. But there’s so much more to do. This year, we’re committed to going even further. We’re not just staying the course—we’re growing, learning, and striving to make an even bigger impact. We’ll keep fighting for policies that protect our families, educating Black voters on the power of their voices, and working hand in hand with you to improve our communities all over the state.Equal Ground is here for you. Whether it’s through advocacy, education, or simply being a resource, we’re ready to do the hard work to improve lives and uplift our people. I believe 2025 is a year for action and bold steps forward, and I’m excited to see what we’ll achieve together.Thank you for your unwavering support and belief in this work. Let’s make this year one to remember—filled with progress, resilience, and victories we can all share.

JANUARY 6th

Today, we mark the anniversary of January 6th, 2021—a day when the world watched as the very heart of our democracy was attacked. What unfolded was more than an assault on a building; it was an assault on the principles of equality, justice, and democracy that America claims to stand for.

What we witnessed on January 6th should have been a turning point for all of us, regardless of political affiliation. It was a moment that revealed the fragility of our democracy and the dangers of unchecked hate and misinformation.

If we are honest, we know that if the crowd on that day had been Black, the response would have been far more violent and unforgiving. The disparity was glaring and shameful, exposing once again how deeply inequities are entrenched in our systems of power and accountability. This hypocrisy is a painful reminder of the work we must still do to achieve true equity and justice in America. January 6th cannot simply become another date in history books. It must be a wake-up call—a reminder that our democracy is only as strong as our willingness to stand up for it. We must demand accountability for those who seek to undermine it and insist on fair treatment for all, regardless of race, belief, or cause.

2025 LEGISLATIVE SESSION

The Florida Legislative Session officially begins on March 4, 2025. This is a critical time to engage with the legislative process and advocate for policies that matter to our community. However, the work starts earlier, with committee weeks and delegation meetings that lay the groundwork for legislative priorities. These pre-session activities are vital opportunities to meet with lawmakers, voice concerns, and influence the agenda. Be sure to stay informed and mark key dates on your calendar to maximize your participation. By showing up and speaking out, we can ensure our voices are heard in shaping Florida's future.

LEGISLATIVE DELIGATION MEETINGS

The Florida Legislature has been sworn in, and they have begun holding legislative delegation meetings. These meetings are where the process of shaping policy starts and offer a unique chance to connect with your local lawmakers without having to travel all the way to Tallahassee. They focus on the issues that matter most to your community, from schools and public safety to economic opportunities and local infrastructure. You don’t have to wait until the legislative session begins to make your voice heard—this is your opportunity to share ideas, raise concerns, and influence the priorities your legislators will take to the Capitol. By attending, you’re not just staying informed; you’re helping ensure that the needs of your community are front and center. Don’t miss the chance to engage locally and make a real impact! IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER

As we prepare for the Florida Legislative Session starting in March 2025, it’s crucial to be aware of key dates leading up to it. Committee weeks and delegation meetings are just as important as the session itself, offering early opportunities to engage with lawmakers and influence the legislative agenda. Mark these dates in your calendar and plan to attend whenever possible. These events allow us to advocate for policies that matter most to our community and ensure our voices are heard at every step of the process.
