Equal Ground Partners with Sen. Shevrin Jones, National Black Leaders & Elected Officials to Rally at Capitol Against DeSantis’ Latest Attacks on Education

TALLAHASSEE – On Wednesday, January 25th, Equal Ground Action Fund is partnering with Sen. Shevrin Jones (District 34) and other Black leaders across the state and country for the Stop the Black Attack rally inside the Florida Capitol, which comes just days after Gov. Ron DeSantis’ decision to block AP African American Studies in Florida public schools calling the class “a political agenda.”

Dozens of demonstrators will gather to hear from Sen. Jones, American Federation of Teachers Secretary-Treasurer Fedrick Ingram, National Black Justice Coalition Executive Director David Johns, Minority Leader Rep. Fentrice Driskell, Rep. Dianne Hart (D-61), and other local elected officials and national leaders as they speak out against DeSantis’ latest politicization of Florida’s education system.

Rally leaders will call on FL communities to push back against this attack, which is just an extension of DeSantis’ extreme political proposals against Black Floridians, transgender youth, learning, immigrants, and voting rights that look to solve problems that do not exist. This latest attack on education comes after the signing of the “Stop WOKE Act” in 2022, which placed limits on the way race can be taught in classrooms.

Press are encouraged to attend the rally and press conference. Speakers and attendees will be available to speak to the media. There will also be a livestream link provided upon request.
